Prices

A fixed price from the start

I charge for my time, at a fixed rate, for these reasons:

  • It is clear and straightforward.
  • When you’re working to a budget you want to know how much something will cost before you start.

I will only charge you for what you want me to do. Whether you are looking for a basic proofread, a ‘light’ or ‘substantive’ edit, or even an entire re-write, I will help you achieve the standard you require and will focus the work accordingly.
I am trained to use British Standard Institute (BSI) proof correction marks clearly and confidently. If your work is on-screen, I am trained in digital proofreading and can work with Portable Document Format (PDF) adaptation. Alternatively, if you supply your work in Word (or a similar program) I am happy to ‘proof-edit’ or use track changes – depending on your needs. If you require copywriting services, I will format the copy according to your wishes.

I am happy to negotiate a day rate for longer projects, if requested.

Helpful Information

I proofread between 2000 and 3500 words per hour. The following factors affect my work rate:

  • required level of proofreading or editing
  • presence / absence of style-sheet or brief
  • subject difficulty (I don’t know much about Greek hieroglyphics – sorry!)
  • project length
  • previous editing / copy-editing input

Meeting your deadline is my absolute priority. Proofreading requires intense concentration so I cannot work for hours at a time and remain efficient. Deadlines need to be planned. For this reason, I do not offer an ‘express’ or ‘same day’ service.

My reputation rests on my ability to avoid mistakes and I am, by nature, meticulous. Any errors made will be rectified at my own expense. Occasionally, if your budget (or your schedule) turns out to be too tight, meeting an acceptable standard can be challenging. I am happy to minimise corrections, at your request, to meet your budget.
